Comforting

My family tends to have a rather irreverent approach to things like this, because, well, we’re terrible people. And being terrible people, I’m thinking that my Dad needs something to sit on. Something that will legitimately help him, but also torture and mock him at the same time.

Preserving the Deranged Infrastructure of Google Earth

Via Vice: "Clement Valla is an artist and coder fascinated by the processes that 'produce unfamiliar artifacts and skew reality'. Not in the primary race, but in things like Google Earth, where he enjoys discovering aberrant digital phenomena before they get corrected by humans. He explains his pursuit in a recent Rhizome interview."

Movies from an Alternate Universe

"Awhile back a friend of mine forwarded me a site where an artist had made posters of films that, title wise, we were familiar with, but there was a slight difference; they were remade as if they belonged to a different era or a different genre, the name of the movie was there, but the actors were different, the style was different, and I loved the concept. So I went forward with this theme; what if movies we were all familiar with were made a different slice of time? Who would be in it? Who would direct it?"
These are fantastic. Via Collider.

N.B., Thanks to my unindicted co-conspirators for holding down the PoF fort while i've been adjusting to life here in SE Asia. Should have plenty of blog fodder going forward.

Masskrugstemmen

Rogelio "Juarez, 49, is a rising New York star in the tiny but transfixing sport of Masskrugstemmen, an endurance competition in which athletes—and they are athletes—try to hold onto an enormous beer for as long as they can.

"Yes, exactly: Masskrugstemmen is the greatest sport ever invented."

Take belching seriously

belch

"Besides the social effects like loss of self-esteem, resulting from polluting the atmosphere of those around you, belching can have many more adverse effects and if not addressed, can result in loss of life."

The Lebowksi Cycle

Lebowski eats the bar

"Begun in 2006, The Lebowski Cycle is a series of paintings exploring the idea of layered narratives, using masterpieces of western art and the 1998 Coen Brothers’ film The Big Lebowski as a starting point."

Football Cops

I think this blog is all mine now. Am I right? *crickets chirping* Right. So, that's kind of cool, because without my image or bio being included in the info, Meredith, Matt, and Tom will be blamed for the drop in quality as I post more and more things that only serve to boost my gradually flagging libido or would otherwise just serve as continued evidence of my lowering standards. So, in that spirit, here's a post with professional football players.
